The last couple people you see float away somewhere where most of the other people you know come from and return to
You might be the only person in the universe who ever knew this existed
Suspended in isolation in time and space
There is a yellow ghost of pavement and rungs of an impossible ladder that no one has touched in twenty, thirty or more years
Nothing moves
If you want to hear something you can put on the radio
Birds won't return until about an hour before dawn, when everything starts getting ready to go back to normal
By seven o'clock it will be like it never happened

Be still for the stopping of time
Long after the daylight has died
Hammerheads! Hammerheads!
Hammerheads hold your every movement
Hard safe from the darkness outside

Nothing safe
Nothing yet
This was never your safety net
Don’t you flinch

In your Faraday cage you set

You sit there looking up at the sea windows
You check on the greenish ship
You check that the room outside the offices is still there
You have to check that all the rooms are still there
You begin to have a better understanding of boxes, and of objects left eternally in storage
Presumably there was an initial feeling that a day of need could come
Old printers could get fixed
Memories of an austere third floor apartment on Block Island and an early morning walk you took with your brother to the grocery store
You have all the time in the world to file them in their envelopes
In the end they will go into boxes and be left eternally in storage
